The NESS L300 is an advanced functional electrical stimulation (FES) system that sends low-level electrical impulses to the common peroneal nerve in your leg, stimulating muscles to lift your foot. The NESS L300 automatically senses your foot position as you are walking and the terrain as it changes. It also adjusts to your walking speed.

The NESS H200 is a state-of-the-art functional electrical stimulation (FES) system that uses low-level stimulation to help your hand open and close. Customizable stimulation programs may help you perform daily activities and also reeducate the muscles over time.

At Advanced Physical Therapy Center, we have a staff of highly skilled, certified hand therapists available at all our locations. Hand therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper extremity or limb. This includes the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow and shoulder, which may not be functioning properly due to any number of problems. Hand therapy is considered to be a specialized area of physical and occupational therapy. Injuries to the upper extremities can be complex, involving bone, tendon, nerve and/or skin. Recovery is equally dependent upon expert physician care and early, appropriate hand therapy.

Electrical stimulation uses an electrical current to cause a single muscle or a group of muscles to contract. By placing electrodes on the skin in various locations the physical therapist can recruit the appropriate muscle fibers. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle. The physical therapist can change the current setting to allow for a forceful or gentle muscle contraction. Along with increasing muscle strength, the contraction of the muscle also promotes blood supply to the area that assists in healing.

Hydrotherapy is simply water therapy. Used a therapy modality, the water temperature and agitation is varied depending on the treatment goals. Warmer water induces vasodilation, drawing blood into the target tissues. Increased blood flow delivers needed oxygen and nutrients, and removes cell waste. The warmth also decreases muscle spasm, relaxes tense muscles, relieves pain, and can increase range of motion.

Laser light therapy is the application of red and near infrared light over injuries or wounds. This improves soft tissue healing and relieves pain by directing bio-stimulated light energy to the body’s cells. This is done without heat and without injuring or damaging the cells in any way. There are also no side effects. The treatment is backed by extensive research and more than 500 published studies. It has been used successfully around the world for more than 20 years.

Phonophoresis is a physical therapy modality that combines ultrasound with the topical application of pain medication. In phonophoresis, the ultrasound enhances the conduction of the pain-relieving medication into your soft tissues for a deep penetration. The use of the ultrasound allows for a high concentration of the medication to reach the underlying muscles. The drug is also delivered to a larger surface area, in a dose that is considered by doctors to be therapeutic.

The acoustic waves generated by the WellWave painlessly pass through the body and converge at a point deep within the soft tissue to produce an intense, extremely short duration compression event. The focused acoustic compression is translated to tissue to provide a massage with pin – point accuracy to the affected area.
